Rusty Shackle – Your Arrows (2026)

Rusty Shackle’s new single, ‘Your Arrows’, is a searching anthem for living authentically. Their track is adorned in the steely chord melodies and string bends of outlaw country. It’s grounded in Celtic music with a beautiful, melancholic fiddle played by Scott McKeon, and the thrashing spirit of hard rock, creating a sonic expression of reeling from constraints on one’s identity, while unapologetically stepping into tomorrow.

Line for line, Liam Collins’ lyrics and delivery are rally call after rally call as he sings, “The ropes you tied /outgrown and crossed lines /Howl at the moonlight, find traces of life”, among rugged electric and acoustic chords and a back beat that stomps. Along with his kick drum, George Barrell’s high hats are on a mission to bring the feeling of an unflinching march towards release. On the chorus, all members coalesce into a group chant with, “Your arrows won’t pierce my soul /True colours on show”, elevating the single into a statement about shaking off the hate and living in one’s truth.

On the bridge, McKeon sounds unleashed. His short-lived phrasing sounds as if he’s dancing amongst the warmth and intoxicating aura of the arrangement, programmed hand claps, and Ryan Williams’ thumping bass. There’s a mournfulness underscoring the elation in his elongated strokes and melodies. These elements expand the interior world, only lightly sketched in the lyrics. As the track carries on, Collins continues his protest with, “It’s too late to lay down /like a dog in the grass” in his powerful voice.

This narrative is meant to empower, but with lyrics like, “Your inner rage is why they gave you a try”,  context and some imagery that shape a character continue to be necessary. A line about who’s shooting the arrows, or at least why separating is vital, would have the song’s grievances and emotions feel less insular. Some emotion comes through in the furious playing on the song’s breakdown. This hot, expressive instrumentation symbolises that much-needed cry when you finally get free. On ‘Your Arrows’, Rusty Shackle wakes the listener, but doesn’t help turn self-recognition into action, which would lead to change.
