Sam Feinstein – Chasing the Bull (2022)

Cryptocurrency and NFTs have soared over the last few years, but this has also led to an increase in the number of scams surrounding them. These scams are the topic of Sam Feinstein’s new single ‘Chasing the Bull’ as he considers the lack of consequences for the perpetrators. Taking on the character of the scammer in the track, he mocks them while also pleading with listeners to question before investing.

Between his gruff vocals, slightly chaotic instrumentation and sardonic lyrics, he has you hooked to his sound, while questioning potential investments. Over the years, he has played in bands across genres from ska to bluegrass and pop-rock. As his first solo single, this track looks to fuse the styles he has worked in, while offering something that is uniquely him.

‘Chasing the Bull’ grabs your attention with a cacophony of sound that moves from noise to a steady beat. There is a darkness to the music that is echoed by the vocals. The arrangement of the melody has a really interesting flair to it as you feel this building sense through the opening that leads you into a fantastic burst of horns. You can hear the passion Feinstein has for what he does in the movement of the melody as it weaves around the rather funky horns. There is a touch of retro vibes to the music at times that takes you back in time to the heyday of big band, before spinning you into a more modern flair. It is a melody that you can easily get lost in as you sway to the horns and the bouncing movement of the beats. Whenever the horns make an appearance, they bring this heavy touch of bluesy jazz that is a pleasure to listen to. Later in the track, there is an interplay between the horns that is utter perfection and you can’t really get enough of it.

Against the building opening of the track, Feinstein’s vocals have a really dark feeling that seems to beckon you into an underworld of sinister dealings. This is taken to new levels when the horns enter with their old-school vibes. There is an old-school bluesy jazz feeling to his vocal performance that enhances the big band vibes of the melody. This is taken further by the backing vocals that add this wonderful little something extra to the track. Through the lyrics, he draws you into the scam of crypto and NFTs with promises that can never really be met. This is an extremely enjoyable single that you will want to listen to again and again.

Sam Feinstein is tackling crypto scams and NFTs in ‘Chasing the Bull’, with an addictive big band sound that takes you back in time to the heyday of funky blues. The interplay between the vocals and melody is fantastic as they play off the energy of each other to enhance the sinister story of the track. With slightly sardonic lyrics, he taps into unrealistic promises, while mocking scammers and warning listeners. This is definitely a single that you want on your favourite playlist.
