Skar de Line – New Silhouettes (2022)

Eclectic, experimental and utterly unique, UK-based Skar de Line cannot and should not be labelled. Influenced by all genres from hip-hop to electronic metal, the Swedish singer-songwriter brings a refreshing breath of air to a sometimes-stagnating indie scene. Fully committed to bringing a new sound to the masses, Skar de Line has turned the heads of critics and audiences alike. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘New Silhouettes’.

Noted as “the second chapter in Skar de Line’s new autobiographical suite of music”, ‘New Silhouettes’ has an intense intimacy stemming from the artist’s passion for his work. Interestingly enough, the intimacy is not hooked in a soft, vulnerable ballad but rather within an upbeat electropop soundscape. Following the more fragile and delicate ‘Reset’, de Line turns a corner with high-paced, high-powered beats. One element of the arrangement is the transition from electronica to soft pop before a bold crescendo into catchy choruses – versatile and eclectic to be sure.

Not having heard of Skar de Line before, I was curious as to what he had to offer. In one word: revolutionary. Unlike any other artist I have heard before de Line presents toe-tapping pop with a heavier hint of metal to frenzied synths and all in a single song. It is the abruptness while still flowing sound that was particularly intriguing.

As I mentioned, ‘New Silhouettes’ has an intense intimacy in a hard-hitting track connecting with audiences. The jovial vibe sets a smile on your face, but the brash arrangement sends a shock through your body with a bit of an “oh hell, that was something else”. Abrupt, awesome and filled with the theme of empowerment, listening to ‘New Silhouettes’ is like taking a vodka shot with a tequila chaser and you’ll love it!
