Sleeping Together – Summer Girl (2022)

The past two years have been filled with uncertainty, fear, anxiety, frustration and, basically, a lot of bad things. Yet, amidst the bad there has also been good, one of which being Sleeping Together. Arising from the depths of the Covid-19 UK lockdowns, Sleeping Together formed over Facetime drawing together artists from Manchester, Liverpool and Wrexham. Lying between The Strokes and Bloc Party, the foursome brings audiences catchy riffs, infectious lyrics and big beats. Come with us as we look at their debut single ‘Summer Girl’ (to be released August 27th).

Featured on notable press like Clout and Radio X, Sleeping Together is already turning heads, and their debut single is totally worth the interest. Tossing you into a sonic whirlpool, the lads leave you twirling about with the melodic combination of pounding drums, powerful guitars and rich vocals. A soothing, toe-tapping tune, but with an indie-rock edginess within the bouncy pop tapestry, the track traverses a laidback and hard-hitting soundscape.

What I truly enjoy is how the melody so adequately represents the “summery” flavour of the mellow single. Warm, rich and caressing you ever so sweetly with frontman Alexander’s dulcet tones, ‘Summer Girl’ is summer romance personified in sound. Alexander shares that ‘Summer Girl’ “…was inspired by a short and sweet summer romance. At the end of summer, the couple agreed to go their separate ways…these fleeting glimpses of a love, destined for rapidly approaching heartbreak, are conveyed perfectly through ‘Summer Girl’…”

Recorded in collaboration with producer Tayte Nickols and mastering engineer Matt Colton (U2, Arctic Monkeys), ‘Summer Girl’ is the first single from Sleeping Together’s upcoming debut EP. Sincere, sentimental and heartfelt, ‘Summer Girl’ paints a smile on your face despite there being a melancholic tinge. I cannot wait for more from Sleeping Together.
