The Carringtons – NOISE (2026)
Do you remember those bands that filled a downtown, underground venue with “heart-pounding in your ears” buzz and outrageous vibes? Do you remember those bands that sat down, had a pint, and just chilled with everyone after the rambunctious gigs? The band no one knows but totally should be up there? The Carringtons are that beloved DIY band in Quebec City. With over a decade in the Canadian underground scene, The Carringtons first made an appearance in the mid 2010s, took a break, hit the air with a renewed version in 2023, took a whisper of a break, and now they’re back – not as a reboot but a continuation of The Carringtons’ DIY strut. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘NOISE’.
Produced by Adrian Popvich (engineering and mixing) and Marc-André Beaudet (mastering), ‘NOISE’ is a whirling concoction of biting alternative rock. Dave Chamberland’s drums crash as Alexandre Gloutnez-Charron’s bold bass swims along the melody. A sweep of Ben Fortier’s rhythm guitar backs the soaring, slice and swerve of Joey Savard’s lead guitar. It’s a chaotic whirl of rock-filled music; however, within that hurricane of sound, there is a sense of soothing tenderness and smile-inducing elegance.
The melody is full-bodied and rich, but it is the vocals that add the whimsical flow of indie-rock music – think The Killers with a heavier edge. A palpable swoon, almost like a fog filling your head, Savard and Fortier’s dulcet voices slip into your ear, dance about, and have you singing along even though you don’t know the lyrics.
Perfectly titled, ‘NOISE’ is, well, a two-minute rush of noise. However, it’s an intriguing, alluring and enticing noise that you couldn’t ignore even if you wanted to. Bringing the mosh-pit rowdiness and raw rock feels of the basement venue to your ears, ‘NOISE’ is the vodka shot you probably shouldn’t have, but it just feels right. Cheers to The Carringtons!
