Lorraine Nash – Whatever This May Be (2026)
A passion for music was ignited in Lorraine Nash’s soul in her early years, and it just keeps growing with fiery ferocity. At age 6 – even before she hit her double digits – Nash became a “talented multi-instrumentalist of traditional Irish music – piano, guitar, fiddle, tin whistle, flute” Remaining true to her County Kerry background, she digs into the roots of her heritage while rubbing a love of country and Americana on the melodies. While this is our introduction to Nash, she is turning heads internationally, performing at festivals in the UK, Ireland and Australia. In 2025, she released her well-received debut album, All That I Can Be; today, we take a look and listen to her most recent single, ‘Whatever This May Be’.
Produced by Ron Block, ‘Whatever This May Be’ is one of those songs that lifts all stress, tension, and frustrations from your chest, leading you into a calm, soothing, relaxed state of breathing out. A great sigh of relief, Nash weaves a folk-inspired brush of Americana with ‘Whatever This May Be’. The fiddle dances in the tune, as a guitar strums, percussion shimmers, and a slip of piano peeps from the wistful background. An ebb and flow of laid-back sound, the song is four minutes of charming music; however, within the sophistication lies the silvery shine of vulnerability, innocence and playful joy.
Melodically, ‘Whatever This May Be’ hits you straight in the feels with comforting content and smile-inducing sincerity. Moreover, the arrangement perfectly captures the theme and poetic lyricism. Nash explains:“’Whatever This May Be’ was born from the idea of finding beauty in the present moment rather than making promises about the future. Sometimes a person can change your outlook on life, even if they’re only passing through.”
Not overwhelming or in your face, nor subdued and insignificant, ‘Whatever This May Be’ finds the sweet spot between upbeat and chilled out. As I mentioned, this is my introduction to Nash, but her music is so genuine it feels nostalgically familiar and refreshingly new. Highly recommended.
