The Lunar Keys – 88 Train (2023)

Brimming with too much nervous energy and tunes trembling in their craniums, musicians Dom (drums), JC (vocals and bass), Steve (guitar and backing vocals), and Lexi (keys and backing vocals) brought their experiences, influences and insanity together forming the alt-rock band The Lunar Keys. An established band, the confidence and intoxicating style of The Lunar Keys have seen them feature in hundreds of publications, receive plays from more than 4000 radio stations, and have an excess of 475,000 views on streaming platforms. Come with us as we delve into their latest release ’88 Train’.

In an interview with RGM, The Lunar Keys shared that music is the “only thing that calmed our crazy messy heads”, and in ’88 Train’ we take a ride through their consciousness. All metaphoric of course. Inspired by their own travels and experiences, ’88 Train’ is a reflective and introspective song looking at the profoundness of their journeys.

“This single takes listeners on a transformative journey through the fleeting nature of time, the desire for connection, and the search for meaning….to embrace the present and seek deeper connections with others while embarking on the thrilling journey of life.” – The Lunar Keys on ’88 Train’

Following the well-received single ‘Life Is A Dirty War’, the foursome weaves a sliver of pop-rock into their heavy alternative rock tinged with nostalgic 80s sentimentality. Pounding drums match dynamic guitars with a scorching ferocity, while the twinkling keys insert a whimsical lightness into the gritty tune. Interestingly, while there is a brash boldness to the arrangement, JC’s vocals are delicate in their warmth and richness. My one complaint is that ’88 Train’ is far too short.
