Collect Call – Talking Slow (2023)

Sprinkling a nostalgic flair in a dreamy indie-rock meets shoegaze haze, UK-based Collect Call has been described as “…a balm for our trouble times” (Undercurrent Magazine). Formed in 2019 and led by vocalist Joseph Thorpe, Collect Call has been sharing its music with the masses for almost five years. While the band is garnering a loyal following in their native England, they are also turning heads on a global scale. Featured by the likes of Plastic Magazine, Lost In The Manor, Higher Plain Music, God Is In The TV and Artisti Online, Collect Call is reaching far beyond their UK borders. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Talking Slow’.

Following the well-received track ‘Heartbreaker’, Collect Call shifts to a different gear with ‘Talking Slow’. Their signature dream-pop sound slivers through the track, however, a more mature contemporary tone is evident. Weaving different flavours of folk into the sophisticated arrangement, a new direction can be felt in the wistful melody. Collect Call has always produced elegant tunes in a slick sophisticated way but ‘Talking Slow’ overrides any raw naivety. Oddly enough, while ‘Talking Slow’ is a high-quality burst of music, there is a slight innocence with whimsical charm slivering through the track.

Taken from their upcoming EP In A Lilac Evening, Collect Call brings a laidback vibe to audiences in ‘Talking Slow’. Soft and mellifluous, listening to ‘Talking Slow’ eases any feelings of pressure letting a soul-stirring calm overtake you. Think of those deep breaths you take after dealing with a tricky situation; this is the sonic encapsulation of that relief.

“’Talking Slow’ reflects on the pressures of our fast-paced world and invites listeners to take a deep breath and speak slowly… the remedy to any sad summer.” – Collect Call on ‘Talking Slow’
