Track of the Day: FAERYS – Nova Scotia (2023)

After a serendipitous meeting of musical minds, the global-based group FAERYS are sharing their fiery sound with the world. While FAERYS is a brand new, sparkling bright project, the members are not ignorant of the music world. As part of note-worthy existing acts, the group draws together the diverse experiences and influences of each individual building something original and authentic. Come with us as we delve into their debut single ‘Nova Scotia’.

Influenced by the likes of Thin Lizzy, Foo Fighters and Royal Blood, FAERYS’ music has a taste of classic rock slicked with contemporary alternative rock in hard rock heaviness. Pounding drums accompany scorching guitars in a hard rock melody; however, just as the instruments harmonise, the crescendos and “in your face” attitudes give each element prominence within the track. The stomp of the drums slaps your cheek while a ferocious guitar solo screeches in kissing you on the other cheek. Interestingly, the kaleidoscopic swirl of sound has a mellow flow lingering beneath weaving it all together with a grin.

The melody in itself has you twirling about in a foot-stomping haze, but the vocals add a shimmering vibrancy turning your head. Bold, forceful and vivacious, the female vocals bring both warmth and brashness to ‘Nova Scotia’. You think this is an amazing hard rock song, but then male vocals slither in hitting the sublime with rich rambunctiousness. Now it’s a song giving you faith that outstanding rockers still exist in a pool of emerging musicians.

Debut singles can either disappoint or astound and FAERYS has knocked it out of the park with ‘Nova Scotia’. My one complaint is that it ended too soon with an abrupt “well, there you go” quality. My hope is that FAERYS have not peaked too soon. For now, I recommend you sit back and enjoy the raw power of the group’s debut release.
