Track of the Day: Sloppy Joe’s – Get In The Ring

With just over one decade in the rock music scene, German trio Sloppy Joe’s have not only created their own breed of rock meets metal but won the hearts of people across the globe with it. Since the release of the single ‘Eat Sloppy Joe’s’ in 2016 to the Live In Hamburg EP in 2022, Jesse Garon (vocals and guitar), Johnny Angel (bass) and Pätzy Dävey (drums) are considered “one of the upcomers in the new wave of classic rock”. Come with us as we take a look at (or rather listen to) Sloppy Joe’s most recent single ‘Get In The Ring’.

Known for their energetic live performances, it makes sense that Sloppy Joe’s would focus on live recordings to share the raw passion of their shows. Following the live version of ‘Devil’s Music’, ‘Get In The Ring’ is the first studio single to be released since ‘Lonesome No.1’ in 2021. Combining elements of alternative rock with metal and punk, ‘Get In The Ring’ hits you full in the face with a forceful melody. Pounding drums clash with dynamic guitars in a gritty, skin-crawling way; however, despite the punk distortion of the single, there is a harmonic soothing within the arrangement. Well, as soothing and flowing as metal can be.

While the melody certainly holds its own with impressive performances from all three musicians, it is Jesse Garon’s vocals that add an edge to the bold song. Garon’s gruff vocals capture the raw power of metal and punk, but a certain warmth can be heard deep within the tones making you feel comfortable while still prepared to make a run for it. Mosh-pit ready with aggressive tones, ‘Get In The Ring’ is a ferocious, vivacious and passionate package of music.
