Track of the Day: Svea Lyon – Runaway
Svea Lyon may never have started her singing career if not for an acoustic guitar and her first-grade music teacher Mr Woody. Her first impromptu performance was singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ in one of Mr Woody’s lessons. After seeing and hearing her talent, the music teacher encouraged Lyon to keep on singing. Fast forward ten years and Svea Lyon is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter with a knack for writing catchy melodies. One of her latest tracks is ‘Runaway’. Despite the raw emotion and depth of lyrics, the simple combination of clear vocals and piano backing shows that complexity does not necessarily mean many elements all squashed together.
“‘Runaway’ is a song about meeting your soulmate as a teenager and running away for the day with them. Right now it seems like so much is out of our control, but making the choice to be with someone is almost always in our control. I hope the song is a bit of an escape from the mundane in life and encourages the listener to dream a little.” – Svea Lyon on ‘Runaway’
