Vetna – Betelgeuse (2020)

Bold experimentation is the order of the day for Vetna, the new musical project of Italian artist Lorenzo. Starting with a splash of alternative rock and mixing in some English electronic music, he tops it off with a sprinkle of psychedelia. All of this is presented with a strong punk attitude to sideswipe you with his infectious beats.

His single ‘Betelgeuse’ combines all this experimentation and presents it to you in a punchy four-minute number. Using driving instrumentation and something uniquely Vetna, the single sets you up for his anticipated full album. Getting you moving to his post-rock vibes, the song teleports you through your imagination.

A driving acoustic guitar opening leads you to the infectious beats of ‘Betelguese’. The arrangement of the melody starts telling a tale before you reach the lyrics of the single. The driving beat increases when you are hit with the ethereal and atmospheric vocals. This higher layer of vocals is a light mist over the driving beats below creating a wonderful interplay.

The airy vocals give way to something much angrier which is matched by the screaming guitars. These brief interludes in the song break it up in a wonderful way. There are a lot of different parts to this single created by changes in the melody and the vocal performance. It is a wonderful introduction to everything Vetna has to offer and his musical prowess. The instrumental sections are a pleasure to listen to as their melodic nature leaves your imagination open.

Changing melodies and screaming interludes keep you hooked to ‘Betelgeuse’ by Vetna. The single has so many different parts which are skilfully introduced through changes in vocals and melodic elements. It is a fun single that you will get so into that you will be shocked when it ends.
