Wild Horse – Attraction (2023)

2023 has been a big year for Wild Horse building on their growing popularity as an emerging band to being an established leader in the UK music scene. Critically acclaimed by international publications, covered by global radio stations, reaching broadcasters, playlists, and even mentioned in Parliament, Jack Baldwin, Henry Baldwin and Ed Barnes have a reputation for being, well, awesomely insatiable. The bold songs translate to bold performances and winning hearts online and on-stage.

With a tendency to delve deeper into the human psyche, particularly the part dealing with intricate relationships, the trio capture good and bad thrills in moving melodies. From ‘Joy Ride’ – a song about “car sex” – to a desire for more than casual relationships in ‘Bitter’, as well as on/off affairs in ‘Do You Wanna Talk’, Wild Horse sifts through all the phases and styles of romance. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Attraction’.

Following the well-received single ‘Do You Wanna Talk’, the Sussex lads keep their distinctive indie-pop style in ‘Attraction’ but with a soul-inflexion. In ‘Do You Wanna Talk’, there was a funk tinge shimmering across the back; however, ‘Attraction’ pulls in a nostalgic whiff of 70s/80s soul. In fact, the sliver of guitar solo hinted at George Benson’s soul-rock style. Once again collaborating with producer Matt Leppanen, ‘Attraction’ is a harmonic flow of powerful guitars, bold drums, and steady bass with a kaleidoscopic twinkle in the mellifluous sweep of sound.

The melody will keep you enthralled drifting along a warm, comfortable sonic stream; however, Wild Horse add a tantalising singe of bittersweetness to the track. Warm, rich and gentle, there is soothing in the song, but with the aching pain of yearning. Have you ever felt that “I love you and want you so bad it actually hurts my soul” attraction? Penned by frontman Jack Baldwin, ‘Attraction’ perfectly captures the desperation and decadence of that feeling.

Sincere, sentimental, honest and genuine, Wild Horse’s ‘Attraction’ oozes passionate longing and a deep-seated need for love (however obsessive).
