Wild Horse – Joy Ride (2022)
Disco-infused and funky but with a raw indie-rock tinge mixed in the pot, UK-based Wild Horse is a band not to be pigeon-holed. Formed by Jack Baldwin, Henry Baldwin (yes, they are related), and Ed Barnes, the trio has the freshness of youth with the sophistication of seasoned musicians. Featured in notable blogs like Rock ‘N Loud Magazine, YMX, Sinusoidal Music, and Brecon Indie Review (to name but a few), the group is reaching audiences on an international level.
Only in their early-20s, the Baldwin brothers and Barnes already have five critically acclaimed albums to their name; not to mention the well-received singles and EPs. The band began releasing music in 2018 (according to Spotify) and their sensational sound appears to evolve with each release. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Joy Ride’.
Taking inspiration from life in its entirety, lyricist Jack explores the gritty, grimy and exuberant experiences in a person’s existence. As I mentioned, despite their youth Wild Horse presents a sophistication and maturity in the lyrics as well as the melody. ‘Joy Ride’ retains the profoundness of experience with the innocent naivety of new love. Alright, it’s really just about a sexy joy ride with someone you fancy, but there’s still some sort of love there.

With a strong sense of old-school soul, Wild Horse’s ‘Joy Ride’ brings the sound of Motown to modern-day audiences. The lead vocals effortlessly lay atop a harmonic combination of drums, guitars and keyboards resulting in a melodic arrangement. The thing is, while this is a soothing song it has a strong sensuality in its delivery. Bold vocals bring sexiness to the sensual sound like that guy who whispers in your ear as he delicately slips his hands beneath your blouse. Intimate, intense and breath-taking, Wild Horse intoxicates audiences with their scandalous music.
