YACOVELLI – Since Emilia (2026)
No newbie to the music scene, singer-songwriter Alex Yacovelli established his name in the NYC underground scene in the 2000s – a musician melding grunge swagger with cheeky alternative rock. A well-seasoned veteran, his resume reads of notable performances at legendary gigs, including sharing the stage with Weezer at their Madison Square Garden debut. His songwriting talent earned him an honourable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, and his Ultraviolet Live performance even earned acclaim from Perez Hilton. It’s a couple of decades in, and this is our introduction to the YACOVELLI party – better late than never. Join us as we dive headfirst into the new single, ‘Since Emilia’.
Produced by Alex Yacovelli and Tommy McCormick, ‘Since Emilia’ is YACOVELLI’s first step into 2026, following the single ‘Tell Me Off’. A collision of Seattle grunge, alternative rock and garage rock, ‘Since Emilia’ grabs you around the waist, twirls you about, and takes you on a dark, kind of creepy but entirely welcoming dance across the floor. Bryan Framhein’s crashing guitars pulsate in the background, while Emi Asta’s guitar soars across the melody – sweeping, swerving, and leaving a glittering tail of fire. Yacovelli’s bass slices in the tune, while still keeping a bold, almost anchoring beat.
In one way, ‘Since Emilia’ has a distorted, grunge-filled crash, so it’s entirely a shambles and burnout mess on the floor – the grit you have to walk through to reach the clean light at the other side of the room. In another, it’s a sophisticated placement of brash ferocity in an elegantly chaotic sonic package. The melody is fascinating, but it is as lyrically intense as it is melodically. Alex Yacovelli explains:
“This song has been marinating for some time. Its musical and lyrical DNA is built on years of digesting The Beatles, Soundgarden and Slash. It’s as much ‘She’s So Heavy’ as it is ‘Black Hole Sun’, or perhaps something more millennial and velvetier. The lyric is the root of the song, a poetic riddle for listeners to unravel.”
In addition to the single, YACOVELLI released an official music video for ‘Since Emilia’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
