Angela Aux – Take Us Home (2023)

Hailing from Bilbao, Spain, singer-songwriter and poet Angela Aux connects with listeners on a deeper level. While Aux performs with the bands Aloa Input, Midnight Embassy and Sepalot Quartet, it is his solo project that draws our attention. This is my introduction to Angela Aux, but he is already reaching audiences far and wide with coverage from Sinusoidal Music, Roadie Music and various playlists. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Take Us Home’.

Following his well-received track ‘Start A Fire’, Angela Aux finds a line between indie-pop, alternative pop and folk with a nostalgic flair in his new release. Dragging us back to the old-school folk sounds in the style of Cat Stevens, we can imagine Aux strumming along to a charming melody with people chilling out all around. Interestingly enough, while there is a leaning toward folk of yesteryear, ‘Take Us Home’ has a contemporary pop style merging old with new – a sound that is fresh but familiar.

Recorded with Tobias Siebert, mixed by Nicolas Sierig and mastered by Sam Irl, ‘Take Us Home’ is a beautifully layered single combining soothing vocals and powerful instrumentation. While a strong synth beat is continuous throughout the melody (courtesy of Wolf Lehmann), I believe it is Iona Selaru’s interspersed strings that enhance the psychedelic quality of this elegant folk track. Bring in Angela Aux’s dulcet vocals and you are immediately tossed into a kaleidoscopic sonic cloud as your soul soars among the bright lights. Oddly enough, while there is a sense of vulnerable melancholy, ‘Take Us Home’ simultaneously expresses hopefulness and optimism.
