Camila Knight – Brave (2021)
From her debut single ‘Angels’ to her latest release ‘Brave’, singer-songwriter Camila Knight has received critical acclaim from the press and fans alike. BuzzMusic described Knight as “merging electronic soundscapes with powerhouse vocals and compelling lyricism” and we have to agree. The experimental melodies make her sound intriguing to listen to, but there is a heartfelt emotion in her lyrics that truly connects with audiences. Inspired by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Joni Mitchell, this Spain-based songstress infuses contemporary melodies with an old-school sentiment. The latest addition to her discography is ‘Brave’.
Following her single ‘In My Mind’ (read our review here), Knight continues to showcase her ability to incorporate various genres within a single song – something that truly notes her signature sound. Proving that she is not to be pigeon-holed, ‘Brave’ is a smooth single drawing together contemporary electropop beats with interspersed funk-influenced instrumentation. Moreover, Knight uses well-placed crescendos to move from steady melodies to energetic pop choruses. What I find most intriguing about this melodic arrangement is how each note pushes you along a turbulent sonic river. Don’t worry, there may be sonic waves but Knight’s warm vocals act as an anchor on this journey.
Touching on the topics of self-confidence and discovering one’s self-worth, ‘Brave’ is an empowering anthem prompting even the most defeated person to stand tall with pride. While the melody is phenomenal in itself, I find the engaging narrative to be the soul-stirring aspect of ‘Brave’. Using her reputed honesty and genuineness, Knight continues to demonstrate her natural musical talent in an obscure and kaleidoscopic manner. Overall, I love this track and highly recommend it to any person; however, you should note that ‘Brave’ is highly addictive and will ensnare your senses from the first moment.
