Camila Knight – Journey (2023)
Two years ago and a couple of weeks ago, a young singer-songwriter named Camila Knight found her way to our virtual pages and quickly captured the hearts of everyone at The Other Side Reviews. Since her single ‘Home’, we have kept a close eye on UK-based Knight watching her progress with fascination. While she does have a special place in our hearts, we are not the only ones singing her praises. From Illustrate Magazine to Bored City, Mesmerized and Couch Mag, Camila Knight is reaching audiences beyond her UK borders. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Journey’.
Following her song ‘no need to say goodbye’, ‘Journey’ is further evidence of her evolution in sound. Retaining the joviality of pop as heard in her Angels EP, ‘Journey’ brings a hint of Taylor Swift to audiences. Yet, an elegant sophistication is evident in the soulful vocals atop an electropop melody. Interestingly enough, just as a maturity is heard in the ethereal ‘Journey’, a raw innocence weaves its way through the sonic tapestry. Knight’s charming voice carefully winds around the melody with an intense intimacy to send your soul soaring.
In an interview with Artenzza, Knight shared that she believes “music has healing qualities, it taught me how to express myself better…surprisingly, I understand better how I feel when I write the words down. I realised that it’s by making music that I can share something valuable, lasting and be of help to others.” – this sentiment is clearly captured in her introspective song ‘Journey’.
Viewing life as a journey, Knight sees the song ‘Journey’ to be a metaphorical representation of life; thus, hoping to connect with listeners on a deeper level. She explains that the single “…talks about an unsettling urge to make a change in your life…it’s all about making tough decisions, choosing the right direction in life and finding the place where you feel you truly belong.”
