Chris Oledude – THE CHOICE (2026)
In a world ravaged with discrimination, uncertainty, instability, and all that frustration, anger, vulnerability and stress bound into the tapestry, living in 2026 can be, well, tiring. While music can bring us solace and some relief, it is the desire to build positive environments, create new lives, and embrace the good out there that really makes things better. Unpicking the delicacy and strain of the present, singer-songwriter Chris Oledude (also known as Chris Owens) hops from one genre to another, beginning a new chapter of change, fun, and a breath of hope. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘THE CHOICE’
A “boomer” and proud of it, Chris Oledude brings a fresh perspective to the music scene with ‘THE CHOICE’. A foray into the folk approach to music where one concept generates another with new lyrics, ‘THE CHOICE’ delves into themes of environmentalism and human decision-making. Oledude explains:
“At a time when war and other conflicts dominate our thinking, we cannot forget that the health of our planet and its atmosphere is the most critical issue confronting our future as human beings… For me, writing ‘THE CHOICE’ was a bold experiment. I had written parodies before, but I had never attempted to expand the meaning of a well-known song. Doing this sort of cemented my commitment to using every means at my disposal to make music meaningful and powerful to people.”
A collaborative project, ‘THE CHOICE brings together the composing, writing, singing and recorder playing skills of Oledude with the guitarist stylings of Zachary Staples. Produced and recorded with Mark Dan and Kat Lewis, the track is, in a word, eclectic. Shards of keyboards slice through a blend of guitars, recorders and drums; however, while there is an off-kilter nature to the song, it is rhythmic and intriguing without being too up and down.
So, my thoughts on ‘THE CHOICE’? A bit uncomfortable, but at the same time engaging. Adding the gospel-led backing vocals with Oledude’s rich, sweet voice leading the way adds a strange desire to follow along in a musical dance.
