Chucky Trading Co – What I Want (2022)
Described by Roadie Music as artists who “make a sound so good to listen to that it’s hard not to fall in love with their music”, US-based Chucky Trading Co are infectious, enthralling and intoxicating. Blending elements of folk, rock and pop in their music, CS Taber and Everett Young captivate audiences across the globe. Along with Roadie Music, the lads have been featured on Edgar Allan Poets, Rock Era Magazine, Rising Artists Music Blog, Find No Enemy and various playlists. One of the more recent additions to their critically acclaimed discography is ‘What I Want’.
Following their single ‘Shadows’, Chucky Trading Co adopt an old-school folk sound in ‘What I Want’. Soothing and laidback, the track has some chilled out vibes in the melody. However, the incorporation of dynamic guitars and pound drums amidst the acoustic guitar arrangement brings a more rock-esque element. Slightly wistful with bold vocals to act as an anchor to the sonic whirlwind, ‘What I Want’ can have you losing your head in its charm.
What I find intriguing about ‘What I Want’ is how Chucky Trading Co share a bittersweet message in a toe-tapping tune. A song about a bitter breakup, ‘What I Want’ taps into the vulnerability of the protagonist. The depth and intense intimacy are evident in the dulcet tones and melodic arrangement. It is as if the love affair was represented by the whimsical acoustic guitar, but the breakup and heartache are expressed through a slightly heavier tone.
Already a fan of Chucky Trading Co, I might be a bit biased with my positive review; however, the lads deserve all the praise they can get. Sentimental, sincere and genuine, ‘What I Want’ is a song that sticks in your head as soon as you listen to it.
