Conor Miley – Peepshow (2026)
This is my introduction to Irish artist Conor Miley, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when he crossed our virtual desk. Established as an innovative singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Wexford-based Miley has turned heads with his confident, energetic performances, emotional depth, and immersive storytelling. From Ciara King at RTE declaring herself a huge fan, and Chordblossom noting the sense of grandeur in his songwriting, Miley returns with new singles and accompanying live studio videos. The most recent addition to his discography is the single ‘Peepshow’.
Pivoting from the folk-rock tones of his well-received 2023 album, Thousand Yard Stare, Miley opens another chapter in his musical journey with ‘Raise Your Red Flag’ and ‘Peepshow’. Harder, heavier, and far more abrasive, this new style captures the raw power of punk-tinted indie-rock. Produced by Christian Best (mixing) and Isaac Barter (mastering) at Monique Studios Cork, ‘Peepshow’ is a smack in the face five minutes of music. Interestingly, as much as the track tosses you about in a tumultuous sonic hurricane, it does not rattle with loud noises, screams and crashing attitudes; no, it’s actually quite calm in an odd way.
‘Peepshow’s melody begins in a quiet stance as Miley’s vocals deliberately pierce the tune alongside Mark Allidine’s pulsating bass. Dergal Mullen’s drums pound pointedly with Diarmuid Cornerford’s guitar slicing across – all seemingly like a person stomping along a stark path. It’s not easy on the ears in a languid, laid-back sense, but neither is it a mash of intense instrumentation knocking you about; it’s a quiet intensity almost threatening chaos in the steady execution. It is only a minute or so before the end that this palpable tension explodes, pushing you to run down the darkened street, but Miley continues to hold your hand like someone trying to pull you from danger.
So, after five minutes of blaring music, what is my overall opinion of ‘Peepshow’? Within its intimidation, sensitivity and warmth exists. You might not notice it, but, for me at least, there’s a striking vulnerability lingering in Miley’s resonating voice, which is beautifully captured in the waves of sound. After listening to ‘Peepshow’, I am eager to hear more from Conor Miley.
In addition to the single, Conor Miley released a live session video for ‘Peepshow’. You can view the video below and/or on Miley’s YouTube channel.
