Davie Furey – Stargazer (2023)

For approximately eight years (according to Spotify), singer-songwriter Davie Furey has been charming audiences with his music. In 2015 he released his debut album Easy Come Easy Go receiving airtime from various radio stations including Highland Radio, BBC, RTE, Midlands 103 and KCLR. Skip forward a few years and he hits listeners again with the well-received singles, ‘Flames On The River’, ‘Who Am I?’, ‘History’ and ‘Downtown Parade’ receiving praise from notable publications beyond his Irish borders. Not only has the Irish artist received critical acclaim but is a chart-topper on iTunes, touring across Ireland and the UK, and garnering a following on an international scale. The latest addition to his impressive discography is the single ‘Stargazer’.

Produced, mixed and mastered at JAM Studio with producer Martin Quinn, ‘Stargazer’ is Davie Furey’s first release in 2023. The third track from his upcoming album (set for release in 2023), ‘Stargazer’ adopts a smooth, soft and mellow tone flowing through the melody. Different to ‘Downtown Parade’ and ‘History’, the new single has a slower ballad pace instead of an upbeat one. While Furey’s material is toe-tapping and head-bopping, the toe-tapping tune is not necessarily evident in ‘Stargazer’. Instead, you find yourself twirling about in an ethereal haze with kaleidoscopic winds lifting your soul sending you off on a sublime journey.

While the melody can hold its own, it is the dulcet vocals that really breathe life into the single – at least for me. Poignant and poetic, there is a melancholic vulnerability to Furey’s rich vocals; however, it is lifted to a seemingly hopeful optimism showing both raw innocence and sophisticated maturity. Joined by singer-songwriter Joy Booth, there is a delicate balance between male and female voices flitting you from a rich depth to lighter, um, lights.

Sincere, sentimental and soul-stirring, ‘Stargazer’ slithers in your ear, swirls about your brain and leaves you intoxicated. I look forward to later releases from this sensational artist.
