Baby Schillaci – So Bad (2023)

Described as “…a band with something to say” (R*E*P*E*A*T Magazine), “…an intense and gripping sonic experience” (Lost In The Manor), and “…full of vibrant and exclusive ideas” (Headbanger News), Baby Schillaci is 2023’s answer to The Clash. Oozing a passionate and obscure sound, the Welsh post-punk quartet fuse elements of punk, electronica and noise in their intoxicating melodies. While the lads only formed the band in 2022, Baby Schillaci has quickly garnered an international following with features on Rock Noticias, Mystic Sons, Amplify The Noise, Punktuation Magazine, and numerous playlists. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘So Bad’.

Following their well-received debut single ‘Radical’, Baby Schillaci brings listeners even more of a diverse sound in ‘So Bad’. Lying between The White Stripes, The Clash and Queens of the Stone Age, ‘So Bad’ is bold with a hard-hitting, heavy and biting tone in through the harsh melody. Interestingly enough, while an “in your face” attitude is presented in this new song, the transition to different genres brings a mellifluous flow within a disruptive sonic chaos.

Opening with an alternative rock sound, you could compare ‘So Bad’ with The White Stripes in its disconcerted but mellifluous rock tone. Yet, this is merely lulling you into the warm, fuzzy sonic waters. Slightly deceptive, Baby Schillaci quickly flip the switch from modern-day rock to distorted chaos leaning on old-school punk and post-punk tones. I did say Baby Schillaci is 2023’s answer to The Clash, but in ‘So Bad’ they demonstrate diversity, versatility and the fact that they can take on different forms whenever they want.

This is my introduction to Baby Schillaci, but what an introduction it is. Filled with energy, hype and a frantic sense of mayhem, listening to Baby Schillaci is a sonic acid rush hitting you between the eyes leaving you dazed….and you love it all!
