Delorean Time Warp – The Weight (2026)
You hear the term “Delorean”, and immediately your mind jumps back to Marty McFly and Return To The Future – Christopher Lloyd at the steering wheel. A melding of past, present and future, all in a massive leap, time flying past, and the promise of something… well, certainly different at the end of everything. This sensation and attitude accompany the band Delorean Time Warp and their debut single, ‘The Weight’.
Sitting at the intersection of alternative rock, indie-rock, and dream-pop, ‘The Weight’ is three and a half minutes of soothing, gentle, yet haunting music. An anchoring drum beats in the background, while a bold bass plods along, an acoustic guitar keeps time, and a classic rock-inspired, blues-tinged guitar adds the nostalgic flair of yesteryear’s rock scene. As I said, there is a vintage presence; however, amidst the retro vibe, a contemporary alt-rock vibe remains, attracting audiences of various ages.
Not only does the melodic tune seem to transcend generations and decades – particularly the moving female vocals- but the lyricism adopts a timeless theme as well. Delorean Time Warp share that “the song explores the emotional weight of losing someone you love…. the music explores love, separation, memory, grief and the moments that continue to exist long after someone is gone.” As with the Delorean in Return To The Future, we’re not 100% sure of the date or the destination, but what I do know is this song remains ageless, universal and finds the point between past, present and future with emotional vulnerability.
So, my overall opinion of Delorean Time Warp and ‘The Weight’? A full-bodied song rich in rhythms and alt-rock groove, ‘The Weight’ has depth but also removes that heaviness from your shoulders. It’s not easy to please everyone in my household, but Delorean Time Warp seems to have done just that. My only complaint is that the song is too damned short. I can’t wait for more from the US-based band.
