Track of the Day: Dolph Cane – Sunflower (2026)
After putting his writing and music career on hold for some years to support his young family, singer-songwriter Dolph Cane was “honestly not sure if I’d return to it”. Then again, a love for music doesn’t always disappear, burning as embers in the inner flame before bursting into passionate life, rearing with a zealous fire. Irish artist Cane found this burning love for music once again. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Sunflower’.
Recorded and produced by Dolph Cane, with mastering by Adam Garrett, ‘Sunflower’ is Cane’s first release since 2024’s ‘Mars Rhodes’, and a track from his upcoming album. Immediately showing the tenderness, heart-warming nature and attitude of the song, ‘Sunflower’ opens with a steady piano below a conversation between Cane and his daughter. Bold drums beat from the side, while rhythmic guitars and bass weave across the melody. Soft, soothing and charming, ‘Sunflower’ is the song made for easy moments, a calm tune to end the day, or the perfect sing-along to play on those long car rides.
‘Sunflower’ is not just a listening experience, but has an immersive vibrancy, transporting you to a sonic field with, you guessed it, sunflowers swaying in a gentle breeze. The melody comforts like a sweet scent in the air, but it is Cane’s rich vocals that bring warmth and contentment. Interestingly, just as the melody is so enchanting, so is the lyricism. Perfectly executed in a honey-soaked tenor, ‘Sunflower’ is a song about the love of a father and a daughter. Cane explains:
“’Sunflower’ is a song that talks about the relationship with my daughter, the struggles of becoming a parent as a young musician, the love between us and the fear of losing that love as she grows… The song is about the person and time that truly transformed me, dividing my life into two almost: before her and after her.”
Sincere, sentimental, and a breath of hope, Dolph Cane is an artist who needs to be heard. With the promise of an upcoming album, I am eager to hear more.
