DUEL NATIVE – Hiding Out (2022)

Known for his engrossing, intriguing and enthusiastic melodies, Australia-based DUEL NATIVE can easily place you in the palm of his hand with his music. A half-Hong Kongese, half-Trinidadian, UK-born artist (who now lives in Australia), DUEL NATIVE has a bit of a diverse background – all shining through in his diverse sound. Featured on Vents Magazine, Rock The Pigeon, Find No Enemy and The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!), DUEL NATIVE is reaching international audiences. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Hiding Out’.

DUEL NATIVE’s first release in 2022, ‘Hiding Out’ slathers indie-folk atop an alternative pop sound creating something that is, well, almost impossible to define. Rather obscure in its arrangement, ‘Hiding Out’ is filled with a hazy ambience in a kaleidoscopic soundscape. Described as having “undulating melodies”, the charming song hits you with wave after wave of eclecticism wrapped in a beautifully textured package.

Provocative and enticing, the mind-blowing melodies meld with profound lyricism. ‘Hiding Out’ touches on the anxiety of acting according to one persona in career, money, sexual identity or relations; however, it is also an empowering song as it “takes us on the brave journey towards coming out and living authentically.”

“I actually first wrote ‘Hiding Out’ inside a large closet at home in Melbourne. It was pretty dark and claustrophobic, and that’s kind of how I was feeling… I usually write songs for myself, but I think this one’s for anyone who’s been hiding from who they really are. If you’ve ever worked in a corporate office, that’s probably you…” – DUEL NATIVE on ‘Hiding Out’

So, what do I really think about ‘Hiding Out’? Unlike his previous pieces, ‘Hiding Out’ is by far more eclectic highlighting DUEL NATIVE’s versatility and innovativeness as an artist. Truth be told, I cannot wait for more from this talented individual.
