George Styles – How Will I Ever Know (2026)

George Styles faced this crossroads with his single, ‘How Will I Ever Know’, and we’re not disappointed. Join us as we delve into this new release.
‘How Will I Ever Know’ was born of a moment of creative stagnation and out-of-the-blue serendipity when singer-songwriter George Styles reconnected with old bandmate, drummer Tommy Street. Styles explains: “I was just sitting there, with the track half done, kinda lost on where to go with it next. Then, all of a sudden, I get a message from Tommy Street.” After 25 years recording hiatus, the question of whether things would go back to what they were loomed, but the guitarist and drummer found that sweet spot between vintage indie-rock and alternative rock.
Following on from the nostalgic pop-rock sound, ‘How Will I Ever Know’ breathes life into Radiohead-esque melodies. Yet, while there is a lilt of comparison, ‘How Will I Ever Know’ seems to stand as a distinctive melody that might be entirely Styles, Street and bassist Jeff Gilman. Self-produced by Styles, the melody is harmonic, rhythmic, and precise with a rock-tinged roughness, showcasing the power of camaraderie. In other words, we not only hear but feel the trio’s connection, knowing that each individual knew what to play before they even spoke about it – instinctual, so to say.
‘How Will I Ever Know’ is more than just a few minutes of music wafting through my speakers; it is an immersive experience. From the outset, Gilman’s bass leads you into a foggy musical haze, sitting on a sonic river. The guitar weaves in, adding an enigmatic shiver to the track, while the drums offer a steady anchor in the background. Wistful and mystical, Styles’ vocals lead you across the river like a familiar guide in a new situation. For me, however, it is the end that adds a greater punch to the track with a heavy alternative rock crash, kicking things up with a feisty but subtle break.
