Gregory Lioi – Sometimes I Feel (2023)

From notable independent publications like Less Than 1000 Followers to radio stations like iHeart Radio, singer-songwriter Gregory Lioi is reaching audiences on an international scale. A veteran musician, Lioi has the skills to write a good song; however, his music stands out with its raw vulnerability slithering through the mature arrangements. Launching a new solo project in 2022, there may be a newness or newbie-ness about Lioi. Then again, the veteran in him comes out making him a formidable shark within the sonic ocean. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Sometimes I Feel’.

Inspired by life in its entirety, we see (or rather hear) Gregory Lioi take on significant themes in his music. Following the anti-war protest song ‘Protected By Bombs’ responding to elevating hostilities across the globe, he releases ‘Sometimes I Feel’. Not a song about war per se, but rather the perspective of a fractured reality through the lens of social media. Yes, social media – the convenient but also obtrusive means of communication enveloping our world in its complex workings.

As with ‘Protected By Bombs’, there is an indie-rock vibe to ‘Sometimes I Feel’. While the signature nostalgic tone of ‘Sometimes I Feel’ breaks through in 1980s classic rock guitars, a leaning toward 90s/2000s pop-rock slivers through the melody. Upbeat and toe-tapping, Lioi appears to capture the boldness and significance of social media in ‘Sometimes I Feel’. Yet, the complex lyricism extends to the almost ethereal existence of people in the digital world. No face, no body, just a few pictures, comments and videos – a great way to get messages across on a global scale.

Sincere, sentimental and honest with an intricate, poetic kick, Gregory Lioi releases his new single ‘Sometimes I Feel’.
