Heroes Formula – Ode To My Wife (2026)

With the title, ‘Ode To My Wife’, one would imagine a song of sentimentality, intimacy, doe-eyed looks, and dreamy sighs of wistful, nostalgic peace; not this one. Instead of celebrating the happy moments with a heavy sigh, Heroes Formula is not a song of honeymoons and rose-tinted glasses. No, it is an ode to the wreckage, what happens “after the mask comes off – addiction, betrayal, damaged intimacy, failed rescue, disillusionment, and final separation.” Are you ready? Here we go!

The debut single by Heroes Formula, ‘Ode To My Wife’ is our introduction to the artist. Produced by Dave Tyo and Brandon Crooks, the single is a sweep of old-school indie-rock dragging us back a few decades. Pounding drums keep the pace and act like an anchor in the four minutes of music. A bold bass walks along, while guitars weave in, adding a heavier vibe to the tune. For me, Luke Lappin’s rich vocals guide the song while still comfortably sitting amidst the instrumentation.

‘Ode To My Wife’ has the vintage indie-rock tone, but it retains a contemporary edginess in its soundscape. Interestingly, just as the melody can appeal to old and young audiences, the theme is entirely timeless, definitely resonating with different generations. I’m sure each of us knows the disappointment of broken relationships; some of us understand the rage, pain, and pure “oh, bloody hell, it’s you again! What’s happened this time?” of that love best lost. I know I can.

The melody has warmth and comfort, but it also bites with that razor-sharp cut of vengeance, angst, and discontent. For me, Lappins’ dulcet tones really up the ante as you hear the frustration alongside vulnerability and intimacy. Lyrically, these emotions are heightened with tongue-in-cheek sarcasm and witty rapier.

As I mentioned, this is our introduction to Heroes Formula, and it’s a rather pleasant one. Heartfelt and hard-hitting, you can hear the passion behind ‘Ode To My Wife’; in fact, you can feel it. My one concern is that this debut may be Heroes Formula’s peak. I hope it’s not the case as we wait with bated breath for more.
