Mark Cee – Missed Connection (2026)
Earlier this year, we were introduced to singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Cee with his debut single, ‘How You Left Me Still’. With ‘How You Left Me Still’, the US-based musician left us with a feeling of contentment, as well as a sense of wonder and an intimate connection that lingers. Today, Cee released his sophomore track, ‘Missed Connection’. Will we miss that connection we felt with his debut? Join us as we delve into this new release.
Entirely self-recorded and produced from his home studio in Babylon, New York, Cee maintains a “homespun authenticity… not for the sound alone, but for the same commitment to honesty over polish.” Guitar-driven, with an electric guitar taking the lead and Cee’s charming acoustic guitar whispering in the background, ‘Missed Connection’ is a sparse, simple, bare-bones few minutes of music. The bare-bones intimacy is enhanced by Mark Cee’s almost easy, calm, and vintage folk-style vocals.
A solid folk tune, with poetic lyricism reminding me of Bob Dylan, as well as the brief, conversational vocal execution, ‘Missed Connection’ is no hard-hitting blast or sweeping, soul-catching rush of music. Instead, it takes that sweeping rush and offers it in a steadier, intimate attitude. With ‘Missed Connection’, we’re taken not to the kitchen table to have a conversation, but to the living room sitting before a fire and enjoying the guitar strums.
To my ear, the lead guitar does seem far more prominent than the rest, stepping to the fore and walking atop the rest. However, while this can be a bit of a distraction, it only contributes to the cinematic vibe of ‘Missed Connection’. The gentle melody lays a foundation that you can trod on, while the lead guitar shows you the way.
Preceding his upcoming debut EP, It’s Me, Mark Cee, I find ‘Missed Connection’ might not be as smooth as ‘How You Left Me Still’, but that intimate connection I mentioned remains. I cannot wait for more from this solid folk artist.
