Jeffrey Chan – My Friends Are Hot (2026)

Eager to bring the tragedy, triumph, joy and “um, what was that exactly” parts of life to audiences, Jeffrey Chan celebrates humanity with high-powered, moving music. While his music offers pulsating pushes of synth-rich, beat-driven pop, the US-based Australian traipses across genres, binding funk, pop-rock, and new wave into something… well, different. Chan turned heads with 2018 debut album Faultline, and continued to cause a sensation through those uncertain pandemic years with 2021’s ‘Call My Name’ and 2022’s ‘Vertigo’. In 2024, he delved into experiences from the queer community with ‘What Are Friends For’, and 2025 had him hit our ears with ‘Looking’. Today, Chan steps across our virtual desk with his new single, ‘My Friends Are Hot’.

Following his well-received track ‘Rebound Boy’, ‘My Friends Are Hot’ is Chan’s second release of 2026. Similar to ‘Rebound Boy’, Chan sticks to the electronica realm; however, ‘My Friends Are Hot’ is far more “in your face”. Hard-hitting and pulsating, the single is a clip across the ear, a swot between the eyes, and a shuddering sweep of brash electronic pop. No real weave of dancing instrumentation or melodic layers, this track is pure, pulsating, piercing electronic beat that can be received one of two ways: a smashing, hands-in-the-air pump, or a great shove to a pounding track that is just… well, pounding, and not in the best way. Which way did I lean? Not quite sure, but it was a surprising jolt.

Melodically, ‘My Friends Are Hot’ wiggles into your head and stomps about with the intensity of a sweaty, musty, breathtaking dancefloor. One aspect I enjoy is how the tune so perfectly captures the theme of the track. Chan explains:

“I wanted the song to feel like the soundtrack to pre-drinks with your friends when everyone’s getting dressed, music’s blasting, and suddenly you’re all feeling yourselves a little too much. It sits in that space between friendship, attraction, confidence and chaos. It’s playful and messy, and it’s not meant to take itself too seriously… also wanted an excuse to let my friends know they’re hot. Go blast it out loud.”
