Josh Patrice – The Elders (2021)

The difficult times we have all lived through can easily weigh us down. Fortunately, Josh Patrice is here with some infectious energy in his single ‘The Elders’. Off his album Clever Titles, the single is an energetic infusion of duelling guitars, noise-rock and considerations of the current state of the world. If you need a song that lifts the heaviness from your shoulders with a blast of sound, this is the one for you.

While Patrice is not a newcomer to the music scene, this single and his album mark the start of a solo career after years spent in bands. Together with session musician Chester DuBois, he recorded everything himself. Through the energetic sound of the track, he takes on divisions in the world, poor communication and much more.

‘The Elders’ hits the ground running with a crashing drum and thrumming guitar. The melody has your insides shivering to the rhythm while your limbs want to fly out on their own. While the energy of the music is addictive, there is a subtlety to it that gets you moving without overpowering you. It is a wonderfully delicate duel of instrumentation that comes together for a beautiful dance of charging energy. The music does take a dip for a more melodic flow that lets you catch your breath before gently sending you soaring into the atmosphere.

Patrice’s vocals bring an edge of 90s rock to the song as he sings out over the music. His voice is an additional layer to the energy of the single as he draws you into the contemplation of the lyrics. While the energy of the melody gets your body moving, his vocals and the lyrics get you thinking. Through all of this, he fills you with a wonderful sense of understanding through the look at the world we currently live in.

Josh Patrice uses an energetic rock soundscape to help you contemplate the current state of the world in ‘The Elders’. While the music is addictive, there is a subtlety to it that stops it from overwhelming you. His vocals bring an old-school edge to the track while helping you consider the world.
