Music is a wave of connection; a sweep of something beautiful to carry our thoughts, emotions and experiences in a rush of sound. When it comes to Karen Salicath Jamali’s music – and the song we’re about to review – music exists in her dreams, reaches out to her in the day, and flows from her heart and fingers to our ears. Looking at her new single, ‘Marys Song’, Jamali shares. “This song came to me. One early morning, I heard it clearly in my heart. The melody and words arrived together – complete, peaceful, and whole – as though they had been waiting for me to receive them.”
Hailing from the USA – Orlando, Florida, to be precise – singer-songwriter and visual artist Karen Salicath Jamali first reached our ears with ‘Only In Love We Are’. A moving folk-influenced tune, the track allowed people to become lost in sound, but is strongly inspired by human connection. ‘Marys Song’ sees Jamali, once again, unpack the essence of human connection; however, it turns inward, looking at the significant understanding and connection with one’s inner self. She explains:
“In a world filled with constant noise, endless information, and the demands of everyday life, it is easy to lose touch with the quiet place within ourselves. This song was born from that place of stillness, where we can simply listen, feel, and reconnect with what truly matters.”
Mastered by acclaimed mastering engineer Maria Triana, ‘Marys Song’ is a cinematic concoction of guitar, percussion and smooth piano – all bound in a flowing sonic wave. As with ‘Only In Love We Are’, the track is one of meditation; a song removing all anxiety, stress and discomfort with its wistful melody. For me, this song is the one you play at night when you’re falling asleep; it’s the one that plays in the background when you are doing yoga; it’s the one you can just chill to and feel a weight lifted from your shoulders. Serene and soothing, it’s a song that quickly removes the Monday blues.
