kryosyn – Fading Away (2026)
Not too much is known about singer-songwriter kryosyn other than the fact that she has two singles to stream on Spotify. Now, this might be that I’m not doing enough research, as she is known for alternative-pop music; but, as my introduction to kryosyn, let’s just say she’s a rather new entity to my ears. With sweeping, atmospheric, and moody music, the Swiss musician delves into the realm of pop with her singles ‘Night Draft’ and ‘Fading Away’, offering tunes made for late nights and long drives. Come along as we step into her discography with ‘Fading Away’.
Following the debut, ‘Night Draft’, ‘Fading Away’ is a self-produced, just over two-and-a-half minutes of silvery music. Unlike ‘Night Draft’, the sassiness of jazz doesn’t come across. Instead, ‘Fading Away’ leans further into heartbreaking pop sounds that could be the sweet spot between Miley Cyrus, Clairo, and old-school Billie Eilish.
On one hand, ‘Fading Away’ swells in your chest with breathtaking brushes of synths and bold beats. Yet, on the other hand, it is rather small, vulnerable and oozes emotion from a space of melancholy. Big but little, powerful but fragile, all wound into a smooth indie-pop tune. For me, however, the vocals seem to settle the contrast… well, sort of. kryosyn’s dulcet tones encourage individuality and caresses you with lightness, but she also exposes a defenceless sensitivity, capturing the pain and trauma of complex relationships.
Weighty in itself, the melody dips into contrasting emotion thematically and sonically. kryosyn explains: “’Fading Away’ is a soft, emotional indie-pop song that captures the painful beauty of a relationship quietly fading away… the song captures the weight of lingering memories and the bittersweet act of letting go.”
Flooded with sincerity, ‘Fading Away’ is a song that anyone who has lost love can connect with. This is only her second track, so I am curious to see if future material retains the alt-pop sound or if there is innovation up her sleeve.
