loraine – 901 (2026)

Inspired by artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Lorde, and the iconic Michael Jackson, singer-songwriter loraine turns her passion for pop music into passionate melodies. Hailing from the USA, loraine describes her music as “emotional support with synth-pop” – drawing moving tunes from intimate, personal experiences. In these singles, loraine doesn’t just release her emotions but connects with others, offering solace, comfort, and that space of understanding where you think, “hey, she gets it”. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ’901’.

Following her 2025 single ‘Good Love’, ’901’ is loraine’s first step into 2026. Retaining the silky veil of synth-pop sounds, ’901’ is as ethereal and dreamy as ‘Good Love’; however, this single appears more intricate and complex in its arrangement. Produced by Jared Corder, with mastering by Edsel Holden, ’901’ offers a swirl of silky synths melding with loraine’s dulcet vocals. While you can become lost in this calming swoon, a pulsating, piercing beat interjects. It’s like a heartbeat pumping amidst the soulful tranquillity. A soft piano swims beneath, yet the repetition of one bold note also pierces and pulsates.

For me, and this might be a bit too much analysis, but the acoustic piano brings a human edge into a synthetic world. Its cross-section and interplay insert the theme of loss and melancholy in deceptive joyfulness. loraine explains:

“The day after Valentine’s Day in 2025, I got ghosted by a guy I’d been seeing for a year. I had gotten into a car accident about two months after getting ghosted, and I realised how upset I was about the situation… This release taps into the feeling of life after a breakup – when the world turns into a memory museum. They’re everywhere and nowhere at the same time. You miss them, resent them, and try to let go all at once. That emotional contradiction is what makes the song resonate so deeply.”

Sincere and sentimental, with brutal honesty and emotion, ’901’ is loraine extending a friendly hand, guiding you through the difficulty of love (or rather, love lost). Highly recommended.
