Last Light Theory – Run For My Life (2026)

With a distinct Euro-pop vibe but much more, Last Light Theory have shared their latest track ‘Run For My Life’, where Portuguese musician and multi-instrumentalist André Prista offers a more rock aesthetic to the Euro-pop sound. Opening with some crystal-clear vocals, reminiscent of indie-pop coming out of the mid-2000s, like acts like Alphabeat, but then quickly transcending into a more rock ballad with some powerful vocals. Musically, it pairs a classical sound with some interesting piano pieces as some synth-laden pop riffs perfectly add depth to the sound. The only criticism I have of it is that at times the track does feel slightly repetitive.

I honestly don’t know where I fall with this song; I go from loving it to finding the sound oversaturated, and all this happens in the mere 3 minutes 6 seconds of the track. I felt by the end of the track it didn’t really have an identity or really know what it was trying to do, but still I couldn’t discount it completely, because it kept drawing me back in.

Parts that shone for me were the soft parts of the track. The intro, for example, and simple beat coupled with vocals which set out the narrative well, but as it built I feel the meaning all got lost. Prista’s vocals reach the crescendo during the chorus; they became a little bit samey and didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the track. But the verses are evidence that Prista has a talent that is undeniable and I’d be very interested in hearing some tracks where he takes a gentler approach. Which, hopefully, I’ll get to hear on his upcoming record First Light, which has been a long time coming – 18 months in the making!

I’ve never had my opinion so split by a single; this is a feat I didn’t know was possible, but Last Light Theory have done it. I love the idea, I love the verses and the gentler, focused vocals, and musically I cannot fault Prista’s execution. It’s just the tonal change during the chorus I couldn’t get on board with, but, like I said, I genuinely can’t wait to hear First Light.
