Lonnieclaire – Flock o’ Fakes (2022)

Describing their music as “Garage Americana”, US-based Lonnieclaire merges gritty grunge with folk-rock, blues and country – in other words, “Garage Americana”. Formed in the 90s, Lonnieclaire has been performing for over two decades bringing audiences a solid, roots-based sound. This is our introduction to Lonnieclaire, but the band is receiving critical acclaim from international publications including Music From The Heart, Less Than 1000 Followers, Roadie Music, RGM and Rock Era Magazine. Come with us as we dip our toe into their track ‘Flock o’ Fakes’ – metaphorical dipping, of course.

A mishmash of different styles and sounds, ‘Flock o’ Fakes’ can easily be described as obscure and diverse. Actually, obscure and diverse barely scratches the surface when it comes to ‘Flock o’Fakes’. A rollercoaster ride of music, there are dips and rises in the textured arrangement. The thing is, while the track is a sonic rollercoaster, it is more than one rollercoaster hitting you in this four-minute-long song. Distorted, confusing and head-spinning, the song has a chaotic feeling as you spin about a sonic whirlwind.

Combining drums, guitars and vocals, the execution can be called minimalist but also kaleidoscopic in a way. Each instrument has prominence coming at you from different angles; however, instead of coming together as a melodic whole, they continue to poke at you from every angle. Oddly enough, despite the chaotic distortion, Lonnieclaire has a harmonic flair in the distorted frenzy.

I had no idea what was coming when I pressed play and my mind is still reeling from the indescribable experience. Beware, Lonnieclaire is an unusual force of nature and ‘Flock o’ Fakes’ is not for the faint-hearted.
