Track of the Day: Georgia Tuohey – Bath Water

Working as a songwriter for a decade sounds like a lot of fun and I’m sure it is, but UK-based Georgia Tuohey is moving beyond writing the lyrics to singing them. While working at Xenomania, Tuohey worked with acts like The Kaiser Chiefs, Florrie, Nadine Coyle and many more. She also worked with independent artists to build their musical careers. It’s her chance now…or at least she’s returning to the singing world.

The follow-up to her well-received debut single ‘Sunday Bliss’, ‘Bath Water’ is a soulful and enchanting track. Lyrically, ‘Bath Water’ sheds light on human relationships with a particular focus on the complexity of romantic attachments. The protagonist finds herself in a good relationship after dealing with a lot of “bad ones”. Ironically, she dismisses this good partner’s attempt at affection making her the heartbreaker who once treated her badly.

Originally penned ten years ago in a small studio in Manchester, ‘Bath Water’ has been performed to different audiences and undergone numerous revisions to evolve the sound. Using only vocals and an acoustic piano – courtesy of Georgia Train of Hookers Songs – ‘Bath Water’ has a simplicity enhancing the track’s sincerity and raw honesty. Reminiscent of Florence and the Machine, the instrumentation complements her impassioned and touching voice leaving you wanting more…and more…and more.

“The song is quite punchy with some attitude here and there. It tells a role reversal story and is the ideal track to add a little motivation to your day.” – Georgia Tuohey on ‘Bath Water’
