Lotta Svart – Magi (2026)
We know singer-songwriter Lotta Svart from the band Tears Apart, having interviewed them a few years back, but if you know the name from early-2000’s pop group l’DeeS, well, that’s the Lotta Svart we’re talking about. Today, however, we’re stepping away from Svart as a band member and focusing on her solo project. Her debut single, ‘Finn fem fel’, hit the airwaves (or at least according to Spotify) in 2023. Join us as we sit back and listen to her first single in three years, ‘Magi’.
Co-produced by Svart and Sam Sonntag, with mastering by Gustav Brunn, ‘Magi’ is what Svart terms “melodic electropoetry” – a blending of rhythms, ethereal vocals, and intimate poetic songwriting. Unlike the deliberate pulsating beats of ‘Finn fem fel’, ‘Magi’ is softer and gentler, with that pulsating beat peeping from the background. Smooth and silky, Sonntag and Svart weave together delicate synths, but his guitar creeps in, enhancing the electicism of the single.
Listening to ‘Magi’ is not just about sitting back and enjoying the rush of music. No, it is a vivid, vibrant walking through the music as if stepping into a sonic forest. Languid and tranquil, it’s a happy journey with silky sound swirling about – little fairies dancing along in the glittering veil. Add Svart’s haunting but also heart-warming siren-like vocals, and you’re lost in this world where nothing but the whimsical magic of ‘Magi’ exists.
A Swedish-language single, I already don’t know what Svart is saying in her whispered delivery; then again, you feel so chilled out in the rhythmic music that anything she whispers just adds to the tranquil melody instead of standing out as words. It’s relaxing, languid, and that deep sigh of relief when every morsel of stress leaves your body through your fingertips.

So, my overall opinion of Lotta Svart and ‘Magi’? Once I’m not so super-relaxed, I’ll let you know. For now, I’m eagerly awaiting more from this talented artist.
