OpCritical – Parachute (2026)
With a strong belief in the strength of democracy and the power of a united people to bring about change, OpCritical addresses the “scourge of autocracy” in a melodic response to the dangers facing the world. Since their first release in January this year – and we’re now on the seventh single – OpCritical systematically explore the intricacies of corruption, discontent, destruction, and a seemingly perpetual fall in a mire of global distress, and people seem to be responding; at least, to the empowering music that is. International critical acclaim, regular global radio play, and millions of viewers on YouTube, OpCritical’s message is reaching audiences across the world. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Parachute’.
Following singles ‘Liar Liar’ and ‘Righteousness’, ‘Parachute’ has a strong alternative rock sound, but a rush of classic rock exists deep in the single, giving it an extra powerful punch. A concoction of crashing drums, a dynamic bass, and scorching guitars captivate audiences – almost like being dragged into a sonic whirlpool with slices of bright lights criss-crossing in the tumultuous wall. The thing is, while ‘Parachute’ packs that powerful punch, it is also an incredibly soothing melody seeping into your soul and stoking the embers of life deep in your heart. We all have a brightness that needs to shine, and OpCritical bring that hopeful, warming flame to the surface.
Warm, confident, encouraging, and refreshing, ‘Parachute’ is a full-bodied song, but the lyricism enhances its weightiness. When speaking of the track, OpCritical explains:
“What does a parachute do? It saves you from free-falling and getting hurt. Right now, in this chaotic, crazy world, most people feel like they are falling apart, emotionally, financially, and personally. People want a way out, and many would welcome any parachute to take them to safety. And what do people everywhere ultimately want? Freedom, happiness, and justice. They can find those things inside themselves and project them outward.”
As with each of OpCritical’s singles, ‘Parachute’ is an anthemic push to embrace courage, resilience, and a fighting spirit. I look forward to more from this group.
