Méli Jane – Aura (2026)
Born and raised in France, but now based in Montreal, singer-songwriter Méli Jane crafts music that is dreamy, cheeky, honest and real. With only two tracks on her discography, there is a refreshing newness about Méli Jane; however, the newness is marked by a degree of familiarity and comfort, feeling as if you have known Jane forever despite only being introduced to her today. Inspired by “Bardot, diary confessions at 2 am, and artists like Maggie Rogers, Fleetwood Mac and Lana Del Rey”, Jane brings a sound and presence that is ”…like the scent on a lover’s shirt – intimate, lingering and impossible to forget.” The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Aura’.
Produced by Eric Beaule, sophomore track ‘Aura’ is soft, soothing and tender with a solid folk-pop grounding. As if looking out on a sonic field, filled with flowers and butterflies, the melody is warm, gentle and sincere, capturing that comfort I mentioned. Anchoring drums keep the pace with a rise and fall of dynamic guitars. Percussion flutters across, enhancing a sense of organic presence, while haunting strings come to light closer to the end – a beautiful trailing off of rhythmic and symphonic musical charm.
For me, the melody itself is a breath of fresh air on a rather mundane Monday. It’s the sigh of relief in a room of stagnating air. Yet, it is Méli Jane’s vocals and the intimate theme that make ‘Aura’ really stand out. Honey-soaked and rich, her voice touches your heart, perfectly executing the nostalgic yearning and deep vulnerability of being in love. Jane explains:
“The song is about wanting someone to reveal themselves to you. You keep asking for more, keep hoping they’ll meet you where you are. At some point, you stop fighting and surrender to what is, choosing love even if you know it may not be perfect.”
