November Dog – Out Of Ideas (2026)

Constantly pushing sonic boundaries, blurring genres, finding new sounds, and just leaving the path without any true rules, November Dog takes you on a musical journey without any guidelines. Drawing together the musical stylings of Scott Hanna (vocals and lead guitar), Danny Cockroft (keys), and Michael McCorry (drums), November Dog is quickly standing out as one of the most intriguing newcomers to the UK indie-rock scene. Join us as we jump headfirst into the most recent single, ‘Out Of Ideas’.

Following the well-received singles ‘Cake’ and ‘How I’ve Been’, ‘Out Of Ideas’ keeps in line with the indie-pop brush in ‘Cake’; however, a heavier alternative rock vibe can be heard and felt. Produced and recorded with Daniel Keown, ‘Out Of Ideas’ binds pounding drums with strong synths and a soaring guitar – each instrument entwined in a harmonic sweep of rock music. Interestingly, while there is a heaviness to the track with a dragging darkness, movements in the melody bring a moving ebb and flow – it’s as if the song is alive, drawing breath and keeping you in motion.

Melodically, ‘Out Of Ideas’ has duality. The tune has a light-hearted, soothing feel and can be enjoyed as just that: a light-hearted, soothing song. Yet, just as it is easy to enjoy, there is a darker, more powerful pull dragging you into a sonic pool. Hanna’s vocals dance across the melody, and he seems to lift you from your armchair into the soundscape and out into the musical forest filled with glittering fairies, cheeky imps, and delicate, soulful tones. Lyrically, ‘Out Of Ideas’ has the same poignancy as its melancholy melody. Continuing from the single ‘Cake’, a song where the protagonist faced a “no-win decision, ‘Out Of Ideas’ is characterised by desperation, being committed to a situation that is only detrimental with no other choice.”

With only three singles released, November Dog might be considered rather new on the scene. Then again, with only three singles, the Belfast-based lads are already defining themselves as an evocative, distinctive, sophisticated group. I am eager to hear more from November Dog.
