MICAH – Friend But Foe (2026)

With several MICAH singles having crossed our virtual desk, the Irish singer-songwriter weaves intimate, emotional lyrics with evocative melodies. Sauntering through various shades of pop, MICAH has had us tapping along to alternative-pop, electronic-pop, and contemporary, typical, commercial pop; however, as much as we can place her in the pop category, she is far more than meets the eye. Today, we take a look and listen to her most recent release, ‘Friend But Foe’.

Friends, family, and support networks are all essential to merely continue existing in a confusing world, whether you grew up decades ago or are making your way as a Gen Alpha kid. Most times, we enjoy honest, loyal, trustworthy friendships, but there is always the exception – this is what MICAH explores in her new single. She explains:

“‘Friend But Foe’ is about the moment you realise someone you trusted was never really on your side. It’s about manipulation, control, and the quiet erosion of your self-worth – especially at times when you needed support the most. It’s everything you wish you could say, but instead, you turn it into a song.”

Thematically, the message in ‘Friend But Foe’ is timeless, and lyrically, the words capture an ageless sentiment. Melodically, though, it’s far more contemporary. Following the well-received ‘SEAT FILLER’, the single is a bit obscure, finding a sweet spot between electronic pop and guitar-driven rock-tinged flairs. Pulsating with bold beats, ‘Friend But Foe’ is a rush of sound – you can barely catch your breath with its upbeat tempo. Yet, while the track offers this distorted brush of energetic music, an odd soothing sits in MICAH’s vocals where she injects vulnerability and emotional fragility.

Sincere, sentimental, and a bit of a distorted kaleidoscopic sound, ‘Friend But Foe’ unpicks the complexities of toxic friendships. The thing is, while vulnerability exists, the song is empowering, hopeful, and brims with resilience.

In addition to the single, MICAH released a visualiser for ‘Friend But Foe’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
