Moon Construction Kit – Down The West Coast (2026)

Finding that colourful place where psychedelic-pop and indie-rock collide, singer-songwriter and producer Olivier Cornu refines “nostalgic sounds for a present audience… a distilled mix of vintage warmth and modern tension” in what he calls “sunshine-psych”. We came across Moon Construction Kit last year with his single ‘Long John Silver’, and continue to find that happy sonic bubble in his various tracks since then. Join us as we jump into his hazy mist with ‘Down The West Coast’.

Following his well-received single ‘Snake Charmer ’, Switzerland-based Moon Construction Kit continues to saunter into 2026 with ‘Down The West Coast’. Co-produced with Steve Stout (mixing) and Rogan Kelsey (mastering), ‘Down The West Coast’ hints at the sunshine-y feels of the Beach Boys, but there’s a contemporary dream-pop vibe entwined in the melody. Laidback and tranquil, the music rushes past you with anchoring drums, a bold bass guitar, shimmering synths and an underlying flute adding that whimsical lilt to the track.

On one hand, there is a simplistic melodic charm in ‘Down The West Coast’ – it’s a palpable fog of sounds and styles. However, complexities exist in the easy-on-the-ears tune. Percussion heralds in with precise drumming, while a swirling layer of strings builds into a haunting rush of sound before petering out with glittering gentleness. Add the choir backing, and you feel as if you’re walking in a daze through a hypnotic flood of dreamy sound – all the while, enjoying the vibe.

Perfectly named, ‘Down The West Coast’ is one of the songs you turn up while taking a road trip along the coast. It captures the light wind, the passing scenery, the smell of adventure in the air, and that heart-warming feeling of just enjoying the moment.

So, overall, what is my opinion of ‘Down The West Coast’? Has Moon Construction Kit caught us in the hazy mist? Yes to both, and it was a lovely calm on a dreary Monday.
