MUTE TV – Drag Me Down (2026)
Unpicking the grit and glamour of human experience, UK-based MUTE TV offers “noisy love songs about joy, despair and desperation.” Formed in 2025, so with only a year of, well, existing, Tim James (lead vocals and bass), Joe Mountain (guitar and vocals), and Ade Poole (drums and vocals), find themselves sitting at the core of alternative rock, post-punk and indie-rock. We don’t have much to go on, and MUTE TV hasn’t any previous material to base expectations on, so this is the first glimpse into their music. Join us as we turn up the speakers for MUTE TV’s debut single, ‘Drag Me Down’.
Produced by Chris Ellul, with mixing by Joe Mountain and mastering by Jon Walker, ‘Drag Me Down’ captures MUTE TV at their most visceral, unfiltered and raw. Weaving together Mountain’s slicing guitar, Poole’s crashing drums, and James’ heavy bass, this debut track drags listeners back to the 80s post-punk world. Sharp, crass, and abrupt, ‘Drag Me Down’ is a shot of hard-hitting music coursing through your veins; however, while it hits you between the eyes, there is an infectiousness that has you jumping about, singing along, and eager to do it all again.
The melody finds that place of angst and desperation, then tosses it out with a frenzied flush of “forget you!”. The sorching guitar solo ups the ante, giving ‘Drag Me Down’ an edge, yet the vocals continue to up the ante. Not a particularly lengthy song with minimal lyrics, but an impactful one as you find yourself screaming along, “I don’t wanna listen to you talk about it anymore”. The complete shutdown of music with the abrupt, deliberate end is the perfect swerve of the head to point out they really don’t wanna talk about what’s going on anymore.
So, do I like ‘Drag Me Down’ or is MUTE TV a band I won’t listen to again? The former, definitely the former. The introduction to MUTE TV was brief, but it’s a great way to begin the weekend!
