NADIA – Push The Button (2023)

When I think of smouldering songs, one that rears up in my brain is Clifford Reeve’s ‘Quick Quick Slow’; however, his spot as the sexiest song on The Other Side Reviews is being challenged by singer-songwriter NADIA. A sassy songstress from Northern Ireland, the brown-eyed beauty effortlessly charms audiences not only with her looks but with her melodic music. Bringing the heyday of 90s pop to our ears, NADIA refocused her career in 2018 and since then has won hearts across the globe. From the UK to the USA, France to Australia, NADIA is making waves on an international scale.

Following well-received singles ‘Figure It Out’ and ‘Every Step’, NADIA brings the rush of pop shrouded by a veil of RnB in ‘Push The Button’. Fluttering back to the days of Girls Aloud, Pink, Brandy and Monica, ‘Push The Button’ has a nostalgic flair capturing the toe-tapping, grin-inducing undeniably “in your face” pop sound of the 1990s. Recorded at Mojo Recording Studios with sound engineer Spike Milliken, and co-produced by NADIA, this new song is a hip-swaying tune finding the delicate line between dance club insanity and gentle vulnerability.

Confident and mildly chaotic, NADIA describes ‘Push The Button’ as “a fun and feel-good track”; however, and this is merely my take, there is a sincerity and fragility in the intricate swarm of kaleidoscopic pop. Penned as a bouncy swoosh of blissful joy but with the yearning of a lovesick puppy, NADIA further explains that “it’s about having a crazy strong connection with someone special and longing for them when they’re not around…”

One aspect I find intriguing about ‘Push The Button’ is how it elegantly captures each emotion and sensation in the lyrics and melody. Bold beats pulsate like a racing heart behind sparkling synths that represent that brain fog when completely obsessed with another person. Smoky vocals caress the frenzy of sound with a lingering sassiness and brazen sensuality. Easy on the eyes and now on the ears, it is difficult to not fall in love with the insatiable NADIA.
