Nick Noon – Who Needs Who (2024)

Inspired by life in its totality and expressing all aspects thereof, Nick Noon explores both sides of the coin called reality. From optimistic hopefulness and bright empowerment to profound turmoil and dark vulnerability, he ebbs and flows with each melody. Already a regular on The Other Side Reviews, we have soared on the wings of ‘Costumes’ and ‘Bring Out The Sun’ but retain knowledge of his complex melancholy. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Who Needs Who’.

Following his critically acclaimed EP A Jejune Affair, singer-songwriter Noon saunters into 2024 with the single ‘Who Needs Who’. Showing his mastery of fusing various genres into a single song, ‘Who Needs Who’ swims across vintage Britpop and indie-rock tussling with classic rock tones in a bouncy dance beat. Noon has been compared to Oasis and Coldplay, and while a tap of Oasis can be heard in the melody, ‘Who Needs Who’ has an insatiable eclecticism and innovation in its chords.

Breathing life into 90s indie-rock and an 80s Britpop chaser, Noon’s new track is one of his nostalgic offerings. A fusion of contemporary and old-school genres lean toward a distinctive “Nick Noon sound”; however, ‘Who Needs Who’ stands tall as a bold breath of vintage fancy. Combining pounding drums and scorching guitars in an energetic state of frenzy, ‘Who Needs Who’ ignites passionate chaos in elegant production. The spark to insane dancing with a fist-pumping rush of soul-stirring music, ‘Who Needs Who’ is anthemic.

The instrumentation is outstanding, particularly the searing guitar solo; however, it is Noon’s captivating vocals that bind everything in a kaleidoscopic ribbon. Confident and calm with a soothing warmth twisted in the melody, ‘Who Needs Who’ is a harmonic fusion of totally bonkers and utterly groovy vibes. Then again, should we consider any less from the masterful Nick Noon?
