November Dog – Cake (2026)

Joining the talents of singer-songwriters Scott Hanna (vocals and lead guitar), Danny Cockroft (keys) and Michael McCorry (drums), November Dog are quickly establishing themselves as one of the most intriguing up-and-coming artists in the Belfast music scene. Not necessarily having a distinct sound, per se, but certainly delving into various styles with creativity, this is a band with a lot to offer. Following their debut single, ‘How I’ve Been’, which turned heads of notable curators like Hot Press, November Dog release their new single, ‘Cake’.

‘How I’ve Been’ showcased November Dog’s DIY approach to music production as a self-produced single; however, the lads chose to work with producer Daniel Keown on ‘Cake’. They share that this collaboration “helped push the band further into their synth-rock side… pushing themselves creatively and sonically”. Considering the dramatic diversity from debut ‘How I’ve Been’, it’s clear to see November Dog are spreading their wings into all sorts of sonic realms.

Unlike ‘How I’ve Been’ that has a subdued indie-pop/indie-rock feel, ‘Cake’ is upbeat, high-tempo, and like being tossed into a kaleidoscopic tunnel from the first beat. The combination of pulsating drums matches a dynamic guitar, while the synths simultaneously slip, slide and pound. What I love about ‘Cake’ is not the heart-quickening, breath-taking crash of frenzy; rather, the fact that there’s this speedy push with a juxtaposing soothing setting a soft foundation for listeners.

Light and dark; soft and hard; confident and somewhat weary – ‘Cake’ is the tune made for a dancefloor to jump about to and one to shout along to while singing into your hairbrush and pretending you’re a rock star. This is November Dog’s sophomore single and, given its contrast to ‘How I’ve Been’, I am eager to see where the trio will head next.

In addition to the single, November Dog released an official music video for ‘Cake’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
