Track of the Day: The Lunar Keys – Everything (2026)
Breathing life into old-school alternative rock music, The Lunar Keys drag listeners back to the best of the Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails, but with a contemporary edginess making their sound, well, somewhat timeless. Alongside their sound appealing to all ages, the UK-based foursome act as a voice of their and yesteryear’s generations in their ageless, universal, timeless themes. Willing to explore existential issues with emotional depth, JC (vocals and bass), Steve (guitar), Lexi (keys) and Dom (drums) connect with resonating vulnerability, confidence and understanding. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Everything’.
Joined by Grammy award-winning producer Brendan Dekora, ‘Everything’ finds this odd balance between speedy running ahead at a pace and a steady, toe-tapping, easy-on-the-ears foundation. Listening to ‘Everything’ is like being on a roller-coaster, but without too many twists and turns. No, scrap that, it’s not like riding a roller-coaster; rather, one of those spinning car rides where they rise and fall on a rotating hub – I think it’s called the Octopus. You understand there’s a safe hold so you won’t go flying, but you feel like you’re flying nonetheless.
Pulsating drums, a bold bass, soaring and scorching guitars, and keys fluttering about the melody, ‘Everything’ shifts from alternative-rock to a heavier hard-rock style seamlessly. Elegant and notably sophisticated, but with some grit falling from the rich vocals and arrangement. One aspect I love about ‘Everything’ is how the fast and slow movements so perfectly align with the theme. The Lunar Keys explain:
“Modern panic wrapped inside an alt-rock anthem… ‘Everything’ confronts overstimulation disguised as empowerment: Mankind wanting everything at once – restless adrenaline heading for a collapse disguised as ambition… And the more we want it all, the further many of us get from having it all.”
Chaotic but not. Urgent but holding back. Sincere and reflective but a little haphazard and running on adrenaline alone. ‘Everything’ is a side to The Lunar Keys I am happy to have seen (or rather heard). I am eager to hear more from the group.
As with their previous songs, The Lunar Keys pledge to donate £1 to a charity. In this instance, the pledge will be donated to Shelter – a charity committed to supporting people facing housing emergencies in the UK.
