Ollie Twohill – Neverland (2022)

With his single ‘Silk Dress’, Ollie Twohill brought the story of chasing your dreams to life through the tale of a young musician. He is now taking us away from the challenges of life to an inner oasis in ‘Neverland’. Drawing on his own experiences growing up, he builds a retreat for anyone who is tired, feels like they don’t fit in, or is just done with daily life.

If you are looking for an escape from the daily grind, this is definitely the song you want to listen to. Bringing a pop-punk edge to his sound, he offers a hand to all the outcasts of the world and helps them build their own safe zone from the hard times. The sound filling this track is a wonderful continuation of his last release which marked a transition in his style.

‘Neverland’ hits the ground running with a lively and really upbeat vibe. The pop-punk flow of the guitars shakes you up from the first note, making you want to jump around and go a little crazy. It is a rather freeing melody that lets you forget about the pressures of the world and just let loose. Through the paced melody, Twohill grabs your hand and leads you into a little alcove where the rest of the world doesn’t matter and all you need to focus on is what the music makes you feel. While the music pulses and pumps through your veins, there are moments where the instrumentation drops, only to bounce you into the air when it comes back. It is an extremely engaging melody that you can’t help but get hooked to as you allow it to pull you into a special retreat deep within. Later in the track, the pop-punk push drops, allowing you to sink into the good vibes before the guitars rise below you and soar into good vibes.

It is not only the melody that takes you on an energetic escape from the real world as Twohill’s vocals grab your shoulders and push you into the pulse of the guitars. The initial shout of his voice propels you into the first verse where he introduces you to his personal Neverland. This introduction slides perfectly into a melodic flow on the chorus that is ridiculously catchy and will get stuck in your head. The freedom of the melody is packed into each word of his vocal performance, putting a smile on your face as you follow him away from the struggles of real life. He does touch on the past and feeling like an outcast, but this all turns into a hand held out to those who feel the same.

Through the lively and upbeat vibes of ‘Neverland’, Ollie Twohill grabs us by the shoulders, pushes us into a rocking melody and offers us a place in his personal retreat. There is a freeing feeling to the music that is infused into each lyric that takes you far away from the pressures of daily life. His performance is relatable as he taps into the past to let you know you are not alone in feeling like you don’t fit in.
